How to Lead Groups With Purpose
Are you an educator, group counselor, trainer, etc.? Do you currently lead groups in dialogue, or plan to in the future? Whether you’re an experienced facilitator or new to your role, this training is designed for you.
How to Lead Groups With Purpose is a new learning opportunity for professionals to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities around the theories and practice of group facilitation. This 2-Day training combines theoretical frameworks, multi-media presentations, interactive exercises, group discussion, and real-life case studies for participants to enhance their facilitator expertise.
Participants will learn:
MCSR’s pioneering “dominant” and “counter” stories framework as it relates to facilitation
Your own areas of strength and growth as a facilitator
The challenges of meeting people where they are, and build skills for overcoming these challenges
Strategies for handling adverse scenarios through real-life examples
Approaches to becoming a more credible messenger
“Overall, this was a fantastic experience. The space was warm and inviting, the facilitators were knowledgeable and flexible, and the participants brought such a diverse and meaningful array of experiences to the group. I feel that I learned a lot and will be able to readily apply our discussions to my own facilitation. I hope to be able to attend another MCSR training in the future!”

About the training…
For 25 years, MCSR has effectively used interactive facilitation skills to engage and mobilize youth and adults as an innovator and leader in violence prevention and engaging boys and men. Based on this long-term success, we are excited to announce our newest training and networking opportunity: How to Lead Groups With Purpose.
As many community and industry educators know, facilitating an interactive training, workshop, or group meeting requires you to juggle many moving parts — what questions you ask and how, the personal histories in the room, setting, logistics, group dynamics, and more. While many professional development trainings for educators focus on what content to deliver, not enough focus on how to effectively deliver it.
This 2-day training integrates MCSR’s Dominant and Counter Stories framework, Group Dynamics, and Adult Learning Theory to prepare individuals across industries to confidently and expertly facilitate. Whether you are implementing a curriculum, conducting a training, facilitating a community conversation, or leading a meeting with colleagues, How to Lead Groups With Purpose will enhance your knowledge, skills, and abilities to do better and be better in your role.
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to engage with each other and hear about each other's real life experiences.”
— Training Participant
MCSR continues to offer this training and others online and look forward to hosting in-person trainings in the future.
